We are absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been awarded GymABLE Inclusive club of the year for 2020 and 2021. With was has been a challenging year, we have been delighted to ensure our GymAble programme continues with the support of Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership and local disability services. In 2021, we have delivered programmes for 34 gymnasts with a disability from the HSE Autism Unit, St. Cecilia’s School and ‘The Glen’ Autism Unit at Ransbora Primary School.
To top it off, club coach Kate Frahill was also awarded ‘GymAble Coach of the Year’, for her exceptional commitment and dedication to this programme and her huge effort to adapt our sport and ensure the gym is an inclusive friendly supportive environment. We are so proud of Kate, who truly deserves this recognition.
This programme is a team effort, and could not be ran with out our club committee’s commitment to the programme, to our club coaches Kate Frahill and Karen Friel for coaching such a wonderful programme weekly, to club coach Janice O’Brien for her support and advice on making our sport inclusive and linking with St. Cecilia’s School to plan a programme each term, to club coach Diane Middleton Cox for linking with Gymnastic Ireland and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership to develop and support the programme on an annual basis, to Shane Hayes from Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership for planning and recruiting for each programme, and to all the staff from the local disability services who supervise and support our coaches to deliver each week.
