Club Background
DyNamo Gym Club is affiliated to Irish Gymnastics and was founded by coach Diane Middleton-Cox in September 2003 after a successful pilot summer programme was delivered in Strandhill National School. By 2004, coach Orla Lee joined the club, followed by coaches Janice O’Brien and Sandra McNulty later that year, who joined forces to provide a strong experienced passionate coaching team. With this team of 4, DyNamo Gym Club has since grown from strength to strength, developing into a quality Gymnastics Club, providing beginner, intermediate and competitor gymnastics programmes in acrobatics, tumbling and trampolinging.
As DyNamo Gym Club invested in specialised gymnastics equipment and rapidly grew in membership, the club has had to move to larger premises including Merville Community Centre from 2005-2006 and to the Grammar School 2006-2008. The coaching team developed an action plan in 2006 aiming to set up a designated gymnastics venue, which was seen as a massive step and challenging move for a minority sport, but with the 4 club coaches infectious enthusiasm, parental support and the continued demand for the membership at DyNamo, this plan was realised in May 2008. This centre opened at Toberbride Business Park, Collooney, Co. Sligo which was seen as a very positive step for Sligo and for voluntary minority sport in the establishment of Sligo’s first Gymnastics Centre. The club has since moved again in 2014 to a larger premises based at Union Road Business Park, Collooney. The Club has continued to grow and recruit and train parents, volunteers and coaches, developing a confident and competent coaching team. DyNamo Gym Club would like to thank and acknowledge those who have supported the club since the beginning including Strandhill National School, Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, Sligo Credit Union, Abbotts and Sligo Supply.
